Kieron Pollard smashes 28 runs off the last over in CPL 2017 match, scores 83 from 35 balls | Watch Video

Kieron Pollard played a captain's knock as he scored an unbeaten 83 runs off 38 balls taking Barabdos Tridents to a big score

Kieron Pollard fired up his bat in Match No.8 of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2017. Pollard smashed 28 runs off the last over of Barbados Tridents innings against St Lucia Stars. Pollard decimated Jerome Taylor’s bowling in the last over, hitting 2 sixes and 2 fours. Pollard also got lucky when he got 6 more runs due to an overthrow from the long on fielder. The 30-year-old thrashed the St Lucia Stars bowling lineup as he scored 83 runs from 35 balls including 5 fours and 6 sixes. It was an absolute carnage at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium as he scored at a strike rate of 237.14.

Pollard’s streak ensured that Barbados Tridents score an above average score of 196 for 4. St Lucia Stars didn’t seem to be in the contention of winning the game in the second innings. They could only score 129 for 6 in 15.2 overs before rain played spoilsport.

Because the game was interrupted by rain, Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method came into play. Barbados Tridents won the match by 21 runs. St Lucia Stars skipper Darren Sammy was the only batsman who posed a threat to the opposition. Sammy kept his side alive in the match with a blistering unbeaten knock of 60 runs from 29 balls. He struck 5 fours and 5 sixes in his innings and scored at a strike rate of 206.90 nearing that of Pollard’s towards the end.

Though Sammy did not get much support from the other end as Kyle Mayers struggled to score and the required run rate kept soaring.

Earlier Kane Williamson and Dwayne Smith got Barbados Tridents off to a promising start. Though it was cut-short by Mayers who picked up two wickets in two balls breaking the 72-run opening partnership. Shoaib Malik got out for a golden duck which led to skipper Pollard coming out to bat.
