One question which has always been on fans’ mind apart from what happens on the field is what their favourite players earn for playing a single match. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest cricket board among all the nations. Earlier this year BCCI hiked the salaries of players. There are disparities in what a player earns in a year and per match he plays. That depends on the particular grade that player fits in. According to figures mentioned by cricketcountry.com below are the name of players and how much they earn per year.
Grade A players:
BCCI has divided players into different grades. The players who are included in Grade A get a salary of Rs. 2 crores per year. This is just one part of their salary as these players get paid for every match they play. For a Test match, they get Rs. 15 lakhs, for every ODI they get Rs. 6 lakhs and for every T20I they get Rs. 3 lakhs each. The 7 players who are in Grade A are MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay.
Grade B players:
The players who come under Grade B get Rs. 1 crore per year as salary for BCCI. Apart from the yearly salary, they get Rs. 6 lakh for a Test match, 6 lakhs for an ODI as well and Rs. 3 lakhs for every T20I they play. There are 9 players who fall under Grade B. The list of 9 players includes Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Wriddhiman Saha, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuvraj Singh.
Grade C players:
In a similar manner to what the other grades receive, the Grade C players Rs. 50 lakh as yearly salary. They get paid exactly what the Grade B players receive for playing a Test, ODI and T20I. This grade has 16 players in it. The players are Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Amit Mishra, Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Karun Nair, Hardik Pandya, Ashish Nehra, Kedar Jadhav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Parthiv Patel, Jayant Yadav, Mandeep Singh, Dhawan Kulkarni, Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant.
How much bonus do the players get?
Like normal employees get bonuses for achieving something extraordinary players do get awarded for their performance as well. For batsmen, if a player scores a hundred in ODI or Test, he gets Rs. 5 lakh for it. Let’s say if Kohli made a double century in a Test match, he will get Rs.7 lakh for it as a bonus. That means in the previous Test season, Kohli got 28 lakhs in the previous season for scoring four double centuries.
There is a different criterion when it comes to bowlers. When a bowler takes a five-wicket haul in an ODI or Test match, he gets a bonus of Rs. 5 lakh for it similar to what a batsman gets for scoring a century. If a bowler manages to take a 10-wicket haul or more in a Test match, he gets Rs. 7 lakh as bonus similar to what a batsman gets after scoring a double century.
Extra bonus on performance basis
Players get an extra bonus for their performance from BCCI. Let’s say if a player has scored 3 half-centuries or centuries against the top three teams then the particular player will be getting a salary hike of 30-60 per cent in his salary.
Surprising enough?
