Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are enjoying one of the best comebacks in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) right now. At one point, Delhi Capitals (DC) were cruising towards the target with 23 needed in 21 deliveries, and then DC batting lineup somehow derailed themselves to give KXIP a crucial win (not belittling Sam Curran’s hat-trick).
Curran replaced the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle in the KXIP side. It was a tough ask from him when he was asked to open for the team. The all-rounder had never opened the innings across all formats. The young all-rounder pounded on every opportunity to hit a boundary. He scored 20 runs off 10 deliveries giving the home side a good start.
But the 20-year-old could not negotiate leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane’s googly and lost his wicket in the 4th over putting an end to his cameo.
This prompted DC’s Twitter handle to take a dig at the youngster:

But DC were too early to draw a conclusion, Curran still had things to prove as a bowler. In the second innings, he was asked to bowl the 18th and 20th over. He showed the world that he is worth the Rs 7.2 crore price tag by getting the wicket of Colin Ingram followed by a hat-trick, the first ever for an English player.
And guess who was his hat-trick ball victim? It was Sandeep Lamichhane. He was knocked over by a ferocious yorker from the left-arm pacer wrapping up the proceedings in style.
And then, KXIP had the last laugh on Twitter:
