With all sorts of news making the rounds after Mitchell Starc was ruled out post his injury. There were names making the rounds like Pat Cummins and the rest. Cummins is already practicing as we speak but former Australian legend Merv Hughes has hinted the introduction of the third spinner in Mitchell Swepson considering the spinning nature of the Ranchi pitch. Some were considering it to be a ‘like-for-like’ replacement but that is not to be, may be.
So who is Mitchell Swepson?
The Queensland-born leg spinner could be the real variation in the spin department they are looking for, considering they already have an off spinner in Nathan Lyon and a left are spinner in Stephen O’ Keefe. The 23-year old spinner will have a great opportunity to get a feel of the sub continental conditions.
Picking Mitch Swepson could be a ‘gamble worth taking’ for the third Test, according to an ex-Test quick https://t.co/X3EyWuYl9Z pic.twitter.com/Z6lVf8jOF7

Hughes believes Swepson is a gamble that is worth it. The pitch in Ranchi be like the one in Pune, which means the additional spinner will add value to the attack.
Merv Hughes, who has the information about the pitch from close quarters says, “If I’m hearing (correctly) about what the wicket is like (in Ranchi), it’ll be like that first Test wicket in Pune. You could almost go with three spinners.”
This young leggie can give the ball a real good rip which will keep him in good stead for getting selected.
