Mithali Raj created a ‘World Record’ by becoming the first batter to score 6,000 runs in the history of Women’s ODI on June 12. The highest run scorer in men’s ODI, Sachin Tendulkar himself took to Twitter to express his happiness and wished Mithali Raj for achieving this feat. Whereas, only a few know that Mithali has beaten Tendulkar in the race of reaching the 6,000 ODI runs in fewer innings. Mithali took just 164 innings to reach this feat whereas the Little Master took 170 innings to go over 6,000 ODI runs.
Tendulkar tweeted “Congratulations Mithali Raj! Becoming the highest run scorer in Women’s ODIs as a huge achievement. Also, superb knock today!”. Not only Tendulkar but, Gautam Gambhir, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Mohammad Kaif too wished Mithali for her unique feat.
Mithali scored 69 against Australia in ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 to take India to 226 for 7. She was just 34 runs short of the record before India’s 6th ODI in the tournament.
Both Tendulkar and Raj scored a fifty when they went over 6,000 ODI runs. Raj scored 69 whereas Tendulkar scored 95. However, it seems if Mithali Raj would have played more ODIs, the number of runs she has scored would have been even more. Women ODI series have been scheduled lesser than the frequency at which Men’s ODI.
Congratulations, @M_Raj03! Becoming the highest run scorer in Women’s ODIs is a huge achievement. Also, superb knock today!

Mithali’s average is better than Tendulkar as well clocking 51.52 compared to the latter’s 44.83. She is often compared to Tendulkar of Women cricket for her achievements. But, she has denied in interviews when her personality is concerned to any male Indian cricketer whether it’s Tendulkar or ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni.
A great moment for Indian Cricket, @M_Raj03 becomes the highest run scorer in Women’s ODI Cricket History today. Champion Stuff!
