After successfully leading the Indian Women’s cricket team in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World cup 2017, Indian captain Mithali Raj has received a special gift from a businessman named V Chamundeswaranath. She was gifted a brand new BMW car by Chamundeswaranath for her leadership in the women’s world tournament where the Indian eves reached the finals after 12 years.
As reported by the news agency ANI, after receiving the keys of the luxurious car, Mithali said,”This is not the first time, but the second time that he is gifting me a car. He (Chamundeswaranath) is one person a sportsperson can count on for encouragement and support.”
“Not just this, he has also gifted me many bats, with which I have scored a lot,” she added.
This is not the first time that Chamundeswaranath has felicitated a sportsperson. Back in 2005, he had gifted a Chevrolet car to Mithali after the team reached the World Cup finals where they lost to Australia.

Earlier, for their stellar performance in Rio Olympics 2016, PV Sindhu (Badminton Singles silver medallist), Sakshi Malik (Women’s Wrestling bronze medallist), Dipa Karmarkar ( Women’s Gymnastics 4th spot finish) and Pullela Gopichand (Badminton coach), were each gifted a BMW by the businessman.
The Indian women cricket team had a decent journey in the World Cup 2017. They kick-started their journey with beating the English hosts in the first game. They lost only two games in the league even as they beat Aussies by 36 runs to get into the finals. Despite a superb performance, the Indian women failed to script history. India ended up as the runner-up in the global tournament after losing to England in the finals by just nine runs.
