On India’s 72nd Independence Day, while the world was busy painting their newsfeeds with customary patriotic messages, a Twitter user decided to question Indian skipper Mithali Raj’s patriotism for her delayed post on Twitter.
Mithali posted her tweet at 1:03 AM on August 16, 2018, which according to the Twitter user ‘was not good because she is a celebrity.’
Mithali was busy playing in the T20 Challengers Trophy leading India Blue team against Veda Krishnamurthy-led India Green. Rain played spoilsport in the game because of which it had to be extended a little to extract a result out of it.
Here’s what the 35-year-old posted on her Twitter account:
Wishing India, freedom from hunger, poverty, discrimination, sexism, abuse & greed. We have had 72 years to build ourselves in the manner we want to be defined. Are we close? Lives were lost so we could breathe free. Let’s honour those sacrifices. Jai Hind.

Offended by Mithali’s late post, the troll tweeted:
Independence day over https://t.co/8l4daWaafd a celebrity this is not good.

Mithali was not in a mood to mince her words and gave a fitting reply to the troll:
I’m honored that you think I’m a celebrity. I’m merely an athlete on national duty since 1999. We have the challengers trophy going on and I don’t have the phone with me on the field or off it on Match days. Hope that’s a good enough reason for the delay? Happy Independence Day. https://t.co/nCJkkXEOyV
