Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has come up with a solution for Mahendra Singh Dhoni with which he could survive in T20Is in a better way. Recently, the Indian wicket-keeper had to face a blow of criticism from some of his retired seniors as he failed to score big and rotate strike during the 2nd T20I against New Zealand in Rajkot. The bunch of former cricketers – VVS Laxman, Aakash Chopra and Ajit Agarkar, suggested that Dhoni should bid adieu to T20Is. However, skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri spoke in favour of the former Indian captain and explained his importance in the team.
And now Ganguly has an advice for his junior with which he can perform better in the shortest format of the game. As reported by the news agency PTI, he said,
“His record in T20I is not that good compared to ODIs. Hope Kohli and team management will speak to him separately. He has immense ability. If he approaches T20Is differently, then he will be successful.”
Ganguly also mentioned that Dhoni should continue with the ODIs but in T20Is, he has to think different. He said,
“Definitely not for One-dayers. I think he should keep playing One-day cricket, but he has to play differently in T20Is. He has to play T20Is freely. It depends on the selectors and how they would like to play him”
When asked about the forthcoming India vs Sri Lanka Test series, Ganguly stated that he’s hoping the series won’t be one sider. He said,
“Of course India are the favourites. They are a much better side than Sri Lanka. Recently they won in Sri Lanka across all formats. I hope it won’t be a one-sided series. The recent (limited overs) series against New Zealand was competitive. Hope Sri Lanka will play well.”
