Amid the tussle between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over a revenue issue, team India skipper Virat Kohli has shown his concern on the opening slot of the squad. Recently, the BCCI has confirmed the participation of India in the champions trophy while Kohli has discussed the issue of the opening slot with the board as KL Rahul has not recovered from his shoulder injury and might not be included in the playing XI.
According to several media reports, Kohli has suggested Ajinkya Rahane’s name to open the Indian innings in the Champions Trophy games. However, Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan are in best if their forms but Kohli has shown interest on Rahane for this important task.
For the Champions Trophy, the BCCI will be announcing the Indian squad on May 6. Earlier, India’s participation was in danger due to the revenue issues between BCCI nd ICC. According to the new rules and regulations, BCCI’s of USD 570 million was brought down to USD 293million. Later, BCCI delayed the squad announcement for the Champions Trophy which had put a big question mark on India’s participation.
Meanwhile, team India’s head coach Anil Kumble asked BCCI to let India defend their title and the not let the financial issues affect the game. Several former cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Zaheer Khan, Gundappa Viswanath, Sandeep Patil, Sanjay Manjrekar wanted India to take part in this mega event.
Also, Virat Kohli who was earlier worried due to this inter-board feud is now relieved after the Indian cricket board has given green signal to India’s entry in the Champions Trophy.
