Not MS Dhoni but Wriddhiman Saha is the best wicket-keeper, feels Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly also feels that Virat Kohli wants MS Dhoni for his captaincy skills to strategize 2019 World Cup more than his wicket-keeping abilities

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former Indian captain, is known as the best wicket-keeper in the world. Even the Indian selectors keep on picking him in the squad stating that he is the best option available for that post currently. However, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly doesn’t agree with this fact. The man who brought MS Dhoni in the limelight 13 years ago, now feels that Wriddhiman Saha is even better than Dhoni.

As reported by India Today, recently during an event, Sourav Ganguly compared Dhoni and Saha and stated that the Indian team management should keep an eye on the latter who is “the best in the country right now”.

“MS Dhoni is different, not the orthodox one but you need to be different to be successful and he has that. He has learned his craft with time but we must keep an eye on Wriddhiman Saha. He’s better than him at wicket-keeping, the best in the country right now. He bats at 6 or 7 for India so must keep an eye on him,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

On being asked about chances of Dhoni playing the 2019 World cup, Ganguly said that MS Dhoni is in the team just because Virat Kohli wants him due to his leadership skills more than a wicket keeper.

“I think so. The best part for Dhoni is Virat Kohli wants him. He’s 36 and he’s not the flamboyant MS Dhoni that we saw in Pakistan in 2004 but he’s a different player now. Kohli needs him not just as a keeper but in the leadership capacity as well; he has got the best view behind the stumps.” Ganguly added.

He also spoke about the inclusion of Dinesh Karthik in the present Indian squad against the New Zeland series. Ganguly didn’t find this decision by the selectors justifying and was surprised when he came to know that KL Rahul has been dropped.

Currently, the Indian cricket team is set to play a 3-match ODT and 3-match T2oI series against New Zealand where the first ODI will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 22.
