In a twist of fate, Indian batter Harmanpreet Kaur has received a job offer from Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh in the police department of the state. CM Amarinder Singh offered the post of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to Harmanpreet Kaur if she so desires to join the police force, the Chief Minister’s spokesman said on July 23. Kaur received this job offer following her stellar show in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup in England.
According to the media reports, Harmanpreet Kaur was once denied a job by the Punjab police. “It was 7 years back when the national team player was in a dire need for a job. Kaur had applied for a post in the Punjab Police but her application was snubbed by the Punjab government,” India TV reported.
Harmanpreet Kaur grabbed limelight after she led the Indian women cricket team to the finals of the World Cup with her unbeaten 171-run knock from just 115 balls against the formidable Australian side on July 21.
“The young girl had done Punjab proud with her superb performance that had steered Team India to a semi-final victory and given a tight fight to England in the final match to emerge a close second,” Singh said in a statement after the women’s World Cup final at London’s Lord’s cricket ground.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh also announced a Rs 5 lakh cash award for Harmanpreet Kaur. CM also promised to review the sports policy of the state to undo the “injustice” done to Kaur by the previous Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP government which had refused to give her a job.
The Indian team, led by Mithali Raj, lost to England in the ICC Women’s World Cup Final in England on July 23.
