India beat New Zealand by 6 wickets in the 2nd One Day International to level the series 1-1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah were the ones who set up the Indian win by picking wickets at regular intervals and not allowing the Kiwi batsman to stitch a partnership or settle down. After the Indian win, Indian captain Virat Kohli applauded the two pacers and also revealed the secret behind their success.
During the presentation ceremony, Kohli, while praising Kumar and Bumrah, said,
It is great to see both Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah coming along very nicely. They are top limited overs bowlers. It gives them lot of confidence when they play shorter format. They know that they will start games more often than not, and it helps them prepare well that way.
Kohli further added,
Today, with the wicket being slow, it was heartening to see them getting wickets in conventional ways. They were proper wickets, which fast bowlers like to take.
With this, it is clear that it is the shorter format that helped the two grow as good limited overs bowlers.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have been performing consistently in the Indian Premier League and that is exactly what is working in their favour, and going by what Virat Kohli has indicated, the duo stands a good chance of making it to the World Cup squad.
Despite India possessing Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav in the mix too, Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah have bettered them as India’s number one pair in limited overs format. This means they are in good shape with high chances of making it to the 2019 cricket World Cup team.
