Proud PM Narendra Modi praises Indian women’s team on Mann Ki Baat. Here’s the complete message

PM Narendra Modi said that he was moved by the gestures of the countrymen on women's team's loss. Instead of getting furious, they backed the girls for their effort

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian women’s cricket team on the July 30 episode of his radio show Mann Ki Baat. The Indian eves won a million heart with their performance in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Though they lost the final game against the English team, the way they performed throughout the world series was phenomenal and highly applauded.

In his show, the Indian Prime Minister said that he was moved by the gestures of the countrymen on women’s team’s loss. Instead of getting furious, they backed the girls for their effort. He also stated that the way people welcomed them was heart touching and he couldn’t be a happier man.

He said,”I could see the tension on their faces. I said, ‘Look, this is the age of the media. So expectations get hyped up to such an extent that if corresponding success is not achieved, these turn into despair and even resentment.”

“Some people cross all limits of decency and say and write things that inflict pain and hurt. But it happened for the first time that when our daughters did not succeed in winning the World Cup, the 125 crore people took this defeat on their own shoulders, never letting the burden weigh down these daughters,” he added.

“Banish the thought from your mind that you were unsuccessful. Whether you won the match or not, you definitely won over the nation,” Modi said in his “Mann ki Baat” radio address, recalling what he told the players when he met them after the World Cup.

But, the way India supported the women’s cricket team shows a shift. I am happy how India took pride in the team’s accomplishment: PM pic.twitter.com/SKVDP2YNjr
