Twitterati felt that it was quite obvious and not a shocking piece of news as Ravi Shastri got appointed as India's new Head Coach

Ravi Shastri got appointed as the new Head Coach of India on June 11. It seemed like Indian skipper Virat Kohli had his say after all as he got his picks as the Head Coach of the team. After Kohli’s rift with former Indian head coach Anil Kumble and his controversial exit, he was criticised by many including former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and others. Not only former cricketers but Olympic Medalist Abhinav Bindra too tried to give advice to Kohli on Twitter. People were divided over Kohli-Kumble rift as they took sides. While a few wanted to hear Kohli’s side of the story, others did not expect Kumble to give the fight that easily as the skipper had reservations with his coaching ‘style’.

After Kumble’s withdrawal from continuing as India’s Head Coach, the hunt for the new one began. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of former Indian cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. According to reports, BCCI approached Shastri but he refused to apply for the post until and unless guaranteed that he would not be removed.

Shastri applied after BCCI extended the last date of applying for the Head Coach post. There were also reports that Kohli wants only Shastri as the new coach despite players like Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput and Phil Simmons, Richard Pybus applying for the post.
