Ravi Shastri not appointed as team India's coach, BCCI says, final decision yet to be taken

BCCI joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary has stated that the CAC is still deliberating over the coach's name. The formal announcement could be made later

Moments after the media reports claimed that former Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri is appointed as the next Head Coach of team India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary has stated that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members – Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman- are still discussing on the name of head coach and the final name has to be decided yet.

While addressing a press conference, Amitabh Chaudhary said,”As of now, the CAC is still deliberating over the coach’s name. The formal announcement could be made later.”

Earlier on July 10, six shortlisted candidates including, Virender Sehwag, Ravi Shastri, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus, Phil Simmons and Tom Moody were interviewed through Skype. Later in the evening, CAC members along with BCCI’s joint secretary stated that they need a few days more to come up with a decision.

Sourav Ganguly said,”We are in no hurry to select a coach for the Indian team. Ahead of finalising one name, we would like to consult the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.”

“We also have to give credit to Virat Kohli that he totally stayed out of it, didn’t give any input on names (for coach),” added Ganguly.

However, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) head Vinod Rai asked the CAC to announce the name of India coach on Tuesday.

Previously on June 20, former Head coach of the Indian cricket team Anil Kumble resigned from his post and in his resignation letter, he mentioned that skipper Virat Kohli had some reservations with his style. Followed by Anil Kumble’s this move, the BCCI invited applications to fill in the vacant post. There were rumours too that Virender Sehwag has sent a 2-liner resume, however, he then rubbished this fact.
