Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin have broken a 42-year-old Indian record- they have become the top two Test bowlers in the world. The last time it happened was in 1974 when Bishan Singh Bedi and B Chandrasekhar were ranked number one and number two respectively.
This happened after ICC declared the latest Test ranking. Riding on his 10-wicket haul against England, Ravindra Jadeja attained the number 2 position on the list of the top Test bowlers in the world. R Ashwin has already been the numero uno on the list for quite some time.
In the recently concluded series against England, Ashwin and Jadeja shared 54 wickets among them. Jadeja finished the series with 26 wickets. Ashwin took 28 wickets.
This is Jadeja’s career best ranking which he got after he took 10 wickets in the Chennai Test.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Karun Nair have also been rewarded for their exploits with the bat. Rahul jumped 29 positions to get perch on 51st position. Nair jumped 122 places to come to the 55th position.
KL Rahul had scored 199 runs in Chennai Test. Karun Nair made a sensational triple century, becoming the only Indian after Virender Sehwag to have done so. Because of their knocks, India batted the English out of the match. They lost the Test by an innings and 75 runs, conceding the 5-match series, 4-0.
Karun completed his triple century in 381 balls. He hit 32 boundaries and 4 sixes to take India’s lead to 282 runs, which proved too much for the English team. He scored 232 runs in a day, scoring his last hundred in just 75 balls.
