Rising Pune Supergiants make a surprising move, acquire Shardul Thakur for IPL 10

Shardul Thakur becomes the second player after Mayank Agarwal who has been acquired by the RPS for the upcoming season of IPL

Days after the Indian Premier League 2017 players auction, on March 6, the Pune franchise – Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) – has acquired Indian pacer Shardul Thakur who was earlier played with Kings XI Punjab. Before this season, Thakur has played only one game with Punjab against the Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla in 2015 in which he conceded 38 runs off 3 overs and took one wicket.

Thakur was in KXIP in season 8 (2015) and season 9 (2016) and then was asked to leave the tournament midway. After getting acquired by the RPS, Thakur becomes the second player after Mayank Agarwal who has also being acquired by the RPS as he was released by the Delhi Daredevils.

With this acquisition of players, the Pune franchise has made numerous decisions ahead of the IPL season 10. Earlier on February 19, the Pune owners have sacked Mahendra Singh Dhoni from the post of captain and appointed Australian skipper Steve Smith to lead the side. In the last season, RPS could only win just 5 out of 14 league matches under MSD’s captaincy while Dhoni’s form was the another issue to deal with as he had scored 284 runs in 12 innings with only one fifty to his credit.

Now, with two new additives in the team, the entire RPS squad would look like:

Squad: Steve Smith (capt), MS Dhoni, Adam Zampa, Ajinkya Rahane, Ankit Sharma, Ankush Bains, Ashoke Dinda, B Aparajith, Ben Stokes, Daniel Christian, Deepak Chahar, Faf du Plessis, Ishwar Pandey, Jaskaran Singh, Jaydev Unadkat, Lockie Ferguson, Manoj Tiwary, Mayank Agarwal, Milind Tandon, Mitchell Marsh.
