Former Australian Test cricketers Ryan Harris and Matthew Elliott have been recently appointed as the high-performance coaches to nurture the young talents to play in the under-19 team of the country. The duo of Harris and Elliott has been assigned with this responsibility for the upcoming under-19 series against Sri Lanka.
This combination of a bowler and a batsman—Harris and Elliott—has been selected from 40 applications, who have been programmed to coach the under-19 players at the National Cricket Centre and entrusted with developing the country’s future stars.
Cricket Australia executive General Manager Pat Howard, while talking to the media, said, “A thorough process have been followed to find the best coaches to guide the Australia’s emerging talent and we are extremely excited to have both Matthew and Ryan joining.
“Both the players have a strong understanding of the game and have gone through the Cricket Australia coaching pathway. They are aware of the challenges that lie ahead in developing Australian cricketers to be ready for first-class and international cricket,” he added.
Graeme Hick, the former high-performance coach of the under-19 team, has been made the batting coach of the Australian national team. The second coach’s position is newly created, and therefore there will be two mentors available with the youngsters.
Both Matthew and Ryan will join and start working from the next week. They have been assigned to coach Australia’s under-19 side in a home series against Sri Lanka in April, with Elliott to coach the team and Harris his assistant as their first job.
