As Mumbai plays Baroda in the historic 500th Ranji Trophy game today, November 9, Sachin Tendulkar got nostalgic as he spoke about his first Ranji game. Sachin Tendulkar is a Ranji veteran and knows the domestic circuit like the back of his hand. The stage served as the launching pad for Sachin Tendulkar and the legend makes it a point to attribute it whenever he gets the chance. He even mentioned about it during his farewell speech at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
At an event organised by Mumbai Cricket Association marking the historic occasion, Sachin Tendulkar said,
They (Suru and Kiran) used to come and bowl to me after the nets got over. They used to take me and say bas 10 minutes we will do nets. An imaginary field used to be set and I had to play. Sometimes I said five minutes are over or we came here by 4.30 and it’s already 5 but they used to say no-no you carry on. That confidence helped me a lot to prepare for my first Ranji Trophy game.
Sachin also showed his humorous side when he said,
They used to always tell me that you sleep, we are going to the deool (temple). It was only later I realised what they meant by deool.
Sanjay Manjrekar, who has also represented Bombay said,
Because of the way Tendulkar was batting, we were forced to sit at one place and not to move the entire day. My remembrance of that famous Haryana final is only through sounds. When you played so much of cricket, you know from the crowd reactions what has happened.
The latest from the historic match is that Baroda Won the Toss & elected to Field.

Mumbai will be playing a Baroda minus Irfan Pathan, as he was dropped unceremoniously.
