Sarfraz Ahmed appointed Test captain of Pakistan

Sarfraz Ahmed who takes over from Misbah-ul-Haq will be Pakistan’s 32nd Test captain of the Pakistan National team

Sarfraz Ahmed now becomes the Test captain of Pakistan. So, that means he will now lead Pakistan in all three formats. Earlier, last month Pakistan under the leadership of Sarfraz Ahmed lifted the ICC Champions Trophy, defeating India in the finals to clinch the crown. It seems Sarfraz had added another feather to his crown. Sarfraz replaced Azhar Ali as the captain of the ODI format earlier in February 2017. He is also the skipper of national T20 team. Today’s announcement ends the long speculation over the identity of Misbah-ul-Haq’s successor as Test captain. Misbah, who retired at the end of Pakistan’s tour of West Indies in May, was Pakistan’s longest serving and most successful Test captain, leading them to 26 wins in 56 matches.

The 30-year-old wicketkeeper, who is a regular in the Test side will be Pakistan’s 32nd Test captain. He has shown his sound abilities behind the stumps and that is why PCB chief Shahryar Khan thought he was best for the job. Sarfraz has won the trust of the people in Pakistan and is nothing short of a national hero in a state laden with terror.

Pakistan cricket has gone through terrible times, hence this is a little joy that will make everybody happy.

Against the odds, Pakistan, who were at No 8 in the ICC Rankings and were under the threat of missing out on a direct qualification to the 2019 World Cup, beat South Africa, Sri Lanka, England and India enroute winning the championship after having suffered a heavy loss against India in the tournament opener by 105 runs, that was a rain-truncated match.

Sarfraz had also led the Pakistan U-19 team to victory in 2006, so he is no stranger to the world stage. After winning the ICC Champions Trophy, he has become the torch bearer of Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan have really done well under Misbah in Tests in their new home at UAE. They drew a series against England 2-2.

The world will now have its eyes on Pakistan as they have shown they have it in them to become world beaters.
