Shikhar Dhawan aided by a DRS (Decision Review System) scored 68 and helped India level the series at 1-1. Earlier in the day, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. They lost wickets at regular intervals and could only manage to set India a target of 231 runs, which did not look adequate. For New Zealand, Nicholls and Grandhomme was the pick of the batsman, they scored 42 and 41 respectively. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the stand out performer, he picked three wickets.
India started pursuit and lost Rohit Sharma early with the score on 22. It was Shikhar Dhawan along with his captain Virat Kohli at the other end. The two put India in a good position with a 57 runs partnership before Virat Kohli lost his focus and wicket, trying to chase a widish ball. Shikhar Dhawan finally departed for a well-made 68. By then, he had almost secured the India win. But on his way to 68, he was also aided by the DRS, when he attempted a sweep shot but went straight to the keeper. Munro was bowling and the Kiwis went up in appeal, the umpire agreed and raised his finger. But that is when Dhawan straight away went upstairs, he looked confident right from the outset.
