Days after Virat Kohli claimed that his friendship with Australian cricket team members had changed post the bad-tempered India vs Australia Border-Gavaskar trophy, the India skipper said that his comments have been blown out of proportion.
“My answer at the post-match conference has been blown way out of proportion. I did not categorically say the whole Australian team but only a couple of individuals. I continue to be in good terms with the few guys I know & who I’ve played with at RCB & that doesn’t change,” Kohli tweeted on Thursday.
While Kohli had earlier claimed that he had good relationships with the Australians, his views seemed to have changed after the recent series.

During a post-match conference after India clinched the Border-Gavaskar series 2-1 on March 28Kohlihi stated that his friendship with the Australian team members had changed during the series. “It (the friendship) has changed. I thought that was the case (friends off the field), but it has changed for sure. In the heat of the battle you want to be competitive but I’ve been proven wrong. The thing I said before the first test, that has certainly changed, and you won’t hear me say that ever again,” Kohli had said.
These remarks made by Virat Kohli indirectly point towards the Australian skipper Steven Smith who mocked the Indian players many times and the environment was heated up during the game. In the Bengaluru Test, Smith and Ishant Sharma were indulged in a furious encounter during the game while in the second innings, Smith was seen referring to the dressing room to seek clarification after he was given LBW out by umpire Nigel Llong. Smith was also seen getting involved in a rageful conversation along with Aussie wicket-keeper Matthew Wade in the last game in Dharamsala while Ravindra Jadeja was batting.
