West Indies batsman Sunil Ambris has scripted an unwanted history on his debut in the first Test against New Zealand in Wellington. He was expected to play a decent inning against the strong New Zealand side but unfortunately, he was dismissed in a way that even he couldn’t realise that he has lost his wicket. In the history of international cricket, Ambris became the first-ever batsman to get hit wicket on the very first ball on debut.
The incident happened in the 30th over after the dismissal of Shai Hope while the Windies side was reduced to 80/4. Ambris stepped into the field and took the strike. Neil Wagner was the bowler who delivered short delivery down the leg side. Ambris moved accordingly to play the shot but moved deep into the crease. His feet touched the stumps and dislodged the bails. The shot was nicely played towards the leg side but it turned out to be worthless.
