Suresh Raina wishes to play World Cup 2019 for his daughter, wants her to cheer for him

Suresh Raina was a key player of the team in World Cup 2011 while in 2015 edition, he even smashed a century against Zimbabwe in the league phase and won the game for his team

Suresh Raina was recently in the news for not being selected in the 15-member squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play against Sri Lanka for the ODI series. Despite undergoing strenuous workout for a couple of months in Amsterdam, Raina failed to clear the yo-yo endurance test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), right before the team selection. As a result, the cricketer didn’t find his name on the selection list, leaving his fans in total despair.

However, Suresh Raina doesn’t seem to have lost the hope and is determined to strive for a place in the future. In an interview with the sports website SPORTSKEEDA, the 30-year-old cricketer stated that he was assured of finding a place in the Indian squad for the World Cup 2019. He also revealed that he had been focusing on his fitness to deliver his best.

The website quoted him saying as,”I am playing the 2019 World Cup in England. It’s the final. India is playing Australia or Pakistan. I don’t care about money, name-fame … all that will be there, and I have done it already. But there’s no greater kick than playing for India, with fans cheering.”

He also mentioned that he would love to watch his daughter Gracia cheer for him while he plays in the World Cup. He said, “And I hit the winning shot, a four. She is clapping in the stands. The tricolour is flying. Everyone is cheering for me. That’s what I want. That’s what I dream of.

Suresh Raina has had an incredible career and has contributed to many of Indian cricket team’s victories. He has not only shared the dressing room with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, but has also led an IPL team to the playoffs. However, his inconsistency has been a major factor in keeping him out of the team.

In 2011 World Cup, Suresh Raina proved to be a key player of the team, while in 2015 edition he even smashed a century against Zimbabwe in the group phase and won the game for his team. And now, he is eyeing to be on the World Cup 2019, which is less than two years away.
