Team India's new coach: Virender Sehwag's First Reaction on his chances of being India's head coach

Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) has asked the BCCI to announce the name of the Indian team head coach today

A day after Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which includes former India captain Sourav Ganguly, former India batsman V.V.S. Laxman and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, postponed the decision to select the new head coach for the Indian cricket team, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) has asked the BCCI to announce the name of the Indian team head coach today itself. The COA issued this directive as they don’t want any further delay in this matter.

CAC members conducted the interview for top post job at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on July 10. Lalchand Rajput, Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus, Ravi Shastri and Tom Moody were the candidates who were interviewed by the CAC. West Indian Phil Simmons however, failed to make himself available for the interview.

According to the media reports, former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag is favourite for the top job. “The CAC committee is super impressed with Virender Sehwag’s vision for Indian cricket. He put forth his points pretty well and his former teammates are very impressed by his vision,” NDTV quoted its source as saying. The official announcement, however, is awaited.

Virender Sehwag, whose interview almost went for two hours, on being asked about his chances of being appointed as India’s head coach, he said: “You will get to know soon.”

The CAC member Sourav Ganguly, while addressing a press conference, said that India team captain Virat Kohli will be consulted before a new coach, who will stay till the 2019 ODI World Cup, is appointed.

“We want to speak to Kohli when he returns from America. We will explain to him that the coaches want to function in a certain way and make sure that everybody is on the same page before we make the announcement,” Ganguly said.

If by any chance Virender Sehwag appointed as team India’s coach, then it would be interesting to see how he will take Indian cricket team forward.
