During ICC Women's World Cup many women cricketers like Smriti Mandhana, Sana Mir among others grabbed the eyeballs because of their performances and their style on the field

Women cricketers across the world have gained popularity, with the credit going to the recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup in England. The tournament, which was played from 24 Jun 2017 to 23 Jul 2017, garnered a lot of excitement and an increased viewership, with 19.53 million Indians to have watched the finals between India and England held at Lord’s.

Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India in its report revealed that around 1.95 crore Indians were glued to their television sets when Mithali Raj and her pack of blues battled the host nation England, at Lord’s.

Statistics also showed that the World Cup final viewership even edged past the 2016 Rio Olympic Badminton final between PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin.

Mignon du Preez was the South African women’s team captain in all 3 cricket formats from 2011 to 2016. On 25 June 2017, she became the first woman from South Africa to play in 100 ODI matches with South Africa’s match against Pakistan in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
