Women cricketers across the world have gained popularity, with the credit going to the recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup in England. The tournament, which was played from 24 Jun 2017 to 23 Jul 2017, garnered a lot of excitement and an increased viewership, with 19.53 million Indians to have watched the finals between India and England held at Lord’s.
Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India in its report revealed that around 1.95 crore Indians were glued to their television sets when Mithali Raj and her pack of blues battled the host nation England, at Lord’s.
Statistics also showed that the World Cup final viewership even edged past the 2016 Rio Olympic Badminton final between PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin.
During the event, many women cricketers like India’s Smriti Mandhana, Sana Mir of Pakistan among others grabbed the eyeballs not just because of their performances but also for their style on the field.
