Twitter reacts to death of Pakistani cricketer Zubair Ahmed

It is high time ICC takes a closer look at this incident and make the necessary adjustments so that such tragedies can be averted in the future

In a horrendous turn of events on the cricket field, young and promising Pakistani batsman, Zubair Ahmed, reportedly died on the field after being hit by a bouncer. According to sources, Zubair Ahmed was playing a club cricket match on 14th August, Pakistan’s Independence Day, when he was hit on the head by a bouncer and sadly passed away. On the same day, even David Warner was hit on the head, but he survived the horror, as per source. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared the news on their official Twitter handle. PCB posted a picture of Zubair Ahmed and captioned: “ Tragic death of Zubair Ahmed is another reminder that safety gear i.e. helmet must be worn at all times. Our sympathies with Zubair’s family.”

This is not the first time an event of this sought has taken place and if ICC does not take quick cognizance, it could happen in the future as well. This is grave for cricket as a whole.

The brimming cricketer’s death reminds us of the Australian batsman Phil Hughes accident, who died under similar circumstances. Hughes lost his life his neck was hit by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 25 November 2014.
