Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) by one run in a nail-biting match in the tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) final match to clinch the title on May 22 in Hyderabad.
In an action-packed finale which could have gone either way for both, the teams proved the phrase ‘survival of the fittest’ right on the ground as MI emerged victorious. Pune fought with all their sweat and blood on the field but could not make it to the last ball of the match even after skipper Steve Smith played the captain’s knock of 51 runs.
We all support our own camp or team and for a country like India where cricket is considered way above any other sport, the sentiments of fans can be easily hurt. More than anything, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former Indian captain who is adored by one and all in and out the stadium, is associated with the team resulting in a losing cause, emotions are bound to run wild here.
During the entire IPL-10 season, Harsh Goenka, RPS owners’ brother had taken an indirect jibe at Mahendra Singh Dhoni a number of times, which left his fans fuming with anger. And when the RPS lost the finals, Twitter gave it back to Harsh Goenka and trolled him up and down and around.
At the initial stage in the IPL when Steve Smith-led Pune to victory against Mumbai, Goenka tweeted that the Australian had completely overshadowed the former Indian skipper.
Here’s how Twitter reacted after RPS lost and reminded Harsh Goenka not to mess with MSD—and his fans, too:
#MSDhoni now Goenka came to know who is the king of the jungle I m a punekar but cannot support them if they insult our legend #respectDhoni
