U-19 WC leading wicket-taker Anukul Roy faces age fraud allegations from Cricket Association of Bihar

Anukul Roy took a total of 14 wickets and was the joint leading wicket-taker along with Afghanistan's Qais Ahmad and Canada's Faisal Jamkhandi in the WC

Anukul Sudhakar Roy recently returned from New Zealand after winning the ICC U-19 World Cup and has landed in a fresh controversy. The 19-year-spinner has been levelled with the charges of alleged age fraud. According to several media reports, Aditya Verma, the secretary of Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), has put the allegations against the India U-19 spinner and has also taken the name of acting secretary of BCCI, Amitabh Chaudhary in this entire episode.

It has also learned from reports that Verma has written a letter addressing to Shashank Manohar, the present chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the head of Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) Vinod Rai asking to look into the issue. In the letter, Verma revealed that Anukul failed the process of age verification in 2017 but still, he was inducted in the U-19 Indian team which eventually won the World Cup 2018.

On the other hand, Anukul is completely unaware of the allegations levied against him. He is currently spending time with the Jharkhand team in the ongoing Vijay Hazare trophy. Speaking about this entire scenario, Anukul said,

“I don’t know anything about this thing. I have no idea about these claims as well. I was never informed about any such issues. I clearly passed the test and was eligible for selection.”

Apart from raising dinger on Anukul, Verma also claimed that the joint secretary of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), Rajesh Verma, has not been ousting average members out from the association. However, Rajesh rubbished the claims and said,

“Roy was part of the Asia Cup, though he didn’t play. Why didn’t he raise this question then? Whatever certificates are given, that has to be approved by the ICC well ahead of time. I’ve got nothing to do with it. The AVP process does not happen every year. It is only done at the U-16 level. After that, it doesn’t work. It’s the age certificates which work after that.”
