U-19 WC 2018, Day 1 round-up: New Zealand, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh win their first matches

Here's the detailed match summary of the games held on Day 1 of ICC U-19 World Cup 2018

The ICC Under-19 World kickstarted on January 13 in New Zealand with eight teams playing their group matches on the opening day. A total of four games were played on the first day from each of the four groups. From Group A, the hosts, New Zealand played against the defending champions, West Indies at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. From Group B, Zimbabwe took on Paua New Guinea at Lincoln No 3 in Lincoln. From Group C, Bangladesh played Namibia at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln, while Afghanistan played Pakistan from Group D at the Cobham Oval in Whangarei.

Group D: Afghanistan U-19 vs Pakistan U-19

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. In 47.4 overs, Pakistan were all-out on a total of 188. Afghanistan chased down the target of 189 runs in 47.3 overs and won the game by 5 wickets.

Group C: Bangladesh U-19 vs Namibia U-19 [Match reduced to 20-overs due to rain]

Namibia won the toss and opted to field. Bangladesh scored 190 in 20 overs after losing 4 wickets. Namibia could only score 103 and lost the game by 87 runs.

Group B: Zimbabwe U-19 vs Papua New Guinea U-19  [Match reduced to 20-overs due to rain]

Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field. Papua New Guinea were all-out for 95 runs. Zimbabwe successfully chased down the target in 14 overs, and won the game by 10 wickets.

Group A: New Zealand U-19 vs West Indies U-19

New Zealand won the toss and opted to field first. West Indies batted for the complete 50 overs and score 233 runs after losing 8 wickets. In return, the hosts easily chased down the target after losing just 2 wickets and won the game by 8 wickets with 10.3 overs to spare.
