The India U19 team is just one step away from scripting history. On February 3, they will take on Australia in the finals of the ICC U19 World Cup, even as fans in India have already expected their victory. It is for the 6th time that India has made into the finals of Under 19 World Cups, and now has the chance to lift the trophy for the 4th time. Both the sides played their first match in the tournament against each other where the Indian colts defeated the Aussies by a massive 100 runs. Under the guidance of former Indian captain Rahul Dravid, the Indian teens haven’t lost a single game so far in the tournament. India before entering the playoffs, had the highest net run rate in the group stages – +3.930.
This tournament resulted in discovering a bunch of talents from the India U19 dressing room. Skipper Prithvi Shaw had already created the stir with the knocks played by him in the domestic circuit. However, players like Shubman Gill, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, Anukul Roy, Ishan Porel emerged as the match winners for India on different occasions. Above all, Gill turned out to be the highest run scorer for India after he smashed 50+ scores in all the matches in the tournament, including an unbeaten hundred in the semi-final against Pakistan.
On the other hand, Australia has won all the games after losing to India. Jason Sangha and Co have played some phenomenal cricket in this tournament. Especially in the quarterfinal game against England despite setting an easy target of 128 runs. Leggie Lloyd Pope’s magical spell of 8/35 made the way for Aussies to the semifinals. Also, skipper Sangha has been consistent with his batting throughput in the tournament.
