India’s Under-19 batsman Pawan Shah scored his maiden double-century in second Youth Test of Sri Lanka tour. Pawan entered the record books as he registered the highest score by an Indian batsman in Youth Test. He surpassed Tanmay Srivastava who scored 220 against Pakistan Under-19 on September 13, 2006. He scored 282 runs from 332 balls including 33 fours and 1 six. Unfortunately, he got run out missing his triple ton.
Pawan also entered the elite list of Indian batsmen who scored centuries in Youth Test. Apart from Srivastava, the list also includes Gautam Gambhir, Cheteshwar Pujara, Abhinav Mukund and Vinayak Mane.
Shah may also become the first Indian and second overall to score a triple-century in Youth Tests. Former Australian cricketer Clinton Peake is the only batsman to score a triple-century — an unbeaten 304 against India Under-19 on March 10, 1995. Pawan’s 282 is the second-highest individual score in youth Tests.
Pawan completed his double-century in style with a boundary. He carried on with the celebration by hitting six boundaries in a single over of EKV Perera.
Pawan scored 38 runs in the first Youth Test on the Sri Lanka tour. Ayush Badoni came close to scoring a double-century but ran out of partners in the first Youth Test. He scored an unbeaten 185. Opener Atharwa Taide too came close to the milestone but lost his wicket at 177.
