Things tend to get ugly on the football field after every mistimed tackle. Players engage in heated conversation and tend to go a bit overboard in their actions, but UAE and Malaysia Under-23 players fought like savages in a friendly game on August 10, 2018, at the Shah Alam Stadium.
The fight between the players broke out in the stoppage time. Malaysia was leading by 2-0. The camera was panned towards the Mauritian goalkeeper when UAE player Mohamed Khalfan Al Harasi hit the Malaysian player with his boot. Soon enough a fierce fight broke out between the two teams. Referee Suhaizi Shukri and others tried to mediate but it only got worse.
Instead of trying to stop the fight, the officials of the two teams, too, vented their anger. The reserve players became a part of the brawl, too. Police had to intervene in order to control the situation.
Earlier, UAE players were playing rough after conceding two goals. The frustration of the players led to the unfortunate incident despite the match being friendly.
Safawi Rasid scored the opening goal of the match in 27th minute. UAE’s hopes of making a comeback were ruined by Akhyar Rashid in the 64th minute by netting the ball into the bottom corner after beating two defenders.
