Vinay Kumar bagged the first hat-trick of Ranji Trophy season 2017-18 in the 4th quarterfinal clash between Karnataka and Mumbai in Nagpur. Vinay picked up the second hat-trick of his career in his 100th First-Class game for Karnataka. With the conclusion of India vs Sri Lanka Test series on December 6, the focus has now shifted to Ranji Trophy 2017-18’s quarterfinal clashes. Vinay made it count by taking a hat-trick on Day 1 of the match.

First wicket, Prithvi Shaw: The new batting sensation, Prithvi will be leading India’s Under-19 team in the upcoming Under-19 World Cup. Vinay got his wicket on the last ball of the first over of the match. Shaw edged the ball towards the first slip fielder to Karun Nair.

Second wicket, Jay Kumar Bisla: Vinay once again bowled in the area of uncertainty. Bisla edged the ball towards Nair who took a one-handed catch. The ball hung on to Nair’s left hand.

Third wicket, Akash Parkar: The 20-year-old batsman was under pressure to survive the hat-trick ball. Vinay was quick to change his line as Parkar was expecting the ball to swing outside. Vinay played smart and bowled an inswinger to Parkar and not letting him settle. The ball struck him on his pads and Vinay bagged his maiden hat-trick for Karnataka.

Vinay became the 10th Karnataka bowler in the history of Ranji Trophy to take a hat-trick. He also became the first bowler to take a hat-trick against Mumbai. He is the 75th bowler to take a hat-trick in Ranji Trophy’s history.
