England run a danger of follow-on as India rattle their top order

England are in a precarious situation after they lost 5 wickets for 80 runs including Joe Root, who scored a half-century. R Ashwin took 2 wickets out of the 5 and was looking dangerous. Jayant Yadav also took his maiden wicket in Test cricket. Now India have the match in its grip.

India were bowled out for 455 runs in their first innings. All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin scored another half-century to take make India’s position strong on Day 2 of the match. India’s lower order again scored crucial runs. Debutant Jayant Yadav scored 35 runs.

Indian captain Virat Kohli got out at 167 runs on Day 2 of the second Test match against England at Visakhapatnam. Ben Strokes caught him at slip of Moeen Ali’s bowling. Though Kohli got out but he left the crease after consolidating India’s position as they were heading towards a decent total. India had lost 7 wickets before lunch after Wriddhiman Saha got out LBW of Moeen Ali’s bowling and Ravindra Jadeja followed him soon. India were 415 for 7 wickets at lunch.

Record missed

This was Virat Kohli’s 14th century. Kohli will be disappointed as he missed out on a record. If he had hit a double ton, he would have become the first Indian captain to score 3 double-centuries in a year.

India in commanding position

India were closing in on the 400-run mark before lunch with Jayant Yadav and R Ashwin on the crease. This is a great position to be in Vizag. It is because the ball was not turning that much on the first day that allowed Indian batsmen to score runs. Both Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli got a hundred. But on the second day, the ball had started to turn and the it kept low on many occasions. This will make stroke-play difficult for England batsmen. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin have a great opportunity here to rattle the English line-up.
