Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli scored the third Test double hundred in a calendar year, as India extended the lead over England to 158 on the fourth day of the fourth Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
He is the first Indian captain to score three Test double hundreds in a calendar year.
Former Australian captain Michael Clarke leads the tally with four double tons in a single year. Kohli is also first Indian to score three double tons in a single year. He had scored 200s against the West Indies and New Zealand this year. Trailing 0-2 in the five-match series, England have not been able to contain the Indian juggernaut Kohli, who took over from where centurion Murali Vijay left on the third day. He made the best of opportunity after English spinner Adil Rashid failed to collect a return from Kohli off his own bowling. On the fourth day, the 28-year-old skipper took a single off Kohli to bring up his double century.

On the other hand, Kohli also stitched together a 214- run partnership with Jayant Yadav for the eighth wicket so far, which is an Indian record.
The ongoing year has been stupendous for Kohli both as a captain and batsman. He has amassed 1,177 runs in this year so far. It means he is the third Indian captain after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to have scored 1,000-plus runs in a single year. Besides this, he is the second Indian skipper to have scored more than 500 runs in a series.
