Virat Kohli to lead pay rise meeting with BCCI as players demand a salary hike

Ahead of the renewal of their contracts with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Virat Kohli has demanded a salary hike for the players of the team. In 2017, the annual pay of the top Indian cricketers was doubled to $300,000 on September 30. The previous contract has expired and now the players need it to be revised with an increased pay.

According to several media reports, the Indian squad is due to meet the BCCI officials on December 1. The players have demanded a raise in their salary after the board cracked a huge deal with the Star group to telecast the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2018 to 2022.

As per the reports, an official has stated that the players want a hike and skipper Virat Kohli will lead the conversation along with former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and head coach Ravi Shastri. They will meet Vinod Rai, BCCI administrator, in Delhi to talk about the pay and the tight schedule they have been imposed with. The official said,

The BCCI has always been trying to be transparent. The Indian players and the captain are always open to raising their point.

The reports also claim that Rai spoke about the modification of players’ grade. The players will be consulted soon. He said,

Two rounds of consultation will be conducted. Another round will be carried out ahead of the last Test match in Delhi.

Team India is going to play Sri Lanka in the last Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi starting from December 2. India is leading the series by 1-0.
