Virat Kohli who recently brought up his 5th double century in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Nagpur is all set to miss the remainder of the series. Virat Kohli had opted for rest ahead of this series, owing to the non-stop cricket he has been playing. Kohli has been in ominous form, he also scored a century in difficult conditions at Kolkata in the first Test. This happens to be Kohli’s 19th Test century, 51st overall and 10th in 2017 across formats. His double ton in the second Test has brought India at the brink of victory.
It is unclear who will make it to the side in his place, but it seems confirmed that Ajinkya Rahane is set to take over as the interim captain of the team. There were also talks of Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin making the rounds.
Virat Kohli has been playing non-stop cricket since IPL. That means his body has gone through a lot of wear and tear and this will give him time to recharge his batteries ahead of the important away tour, where India take on South Africa.

Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav will be fighting for a spot in place of Virat Kohli. It is surprising as a bowler looks promising to replace a frontline batsman, but it could be because the management is confident of the batting set-up, minus Kohli because Rohit got a hundred in the second Test.
However, the focus of attention during today’s selection meeting will be on the tour to South Africa, which will be the first big test of Kohli’s men against a top side in overseas condition. It is expected to be a 17-member squad that will travel to South Africa.
