Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has given a sharp reply to James Anderson for his uncharitable comments, saying the Indian captain has scored centuries on the fastest pitches in the world. He also advised Anderson to concentrate on his own performance.
Anderson had commented after Kohli’s 235 in the Mumbai Test that due to the slow Indian pitches, Kohli’s technical deficiencies don’t come into play.
Sharma said Anderson has done nothing in India as a bowler.
“This is a childish statement from Anderson. What has he done in the matches that he has played? He is also not getting wickets in India. He may be a good pacer but he has to also take wickets in India. Taking wickets in England can’t be a parameter to term someone great,” Sharma told PTI.
“Just wanted to remind Anderson that Virat has five Test hundreds in Australia which produces the fastest pitches,” said Sharma.
Kohli has scored 992 runs in 8 Test matches against Australia.
On Tuesday, former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam had said that Anderson can’t question Kohli as he has not taken many wickets in India.
“It is surprising to me that Anderson should question Kohli’s runs and ability because I haven’t seen him taking too many wickets in India,” Inzamam told Geo News.
“Does Anderson mean that if you get runs in England you get some sort of certificate that makes you a quality batsman. Don’t the English and Australian players struggle when they play in the sub-continent? Does that mean they are bad players or weak teams. To me it does not matter where you get runs because in Test matches runs are runs,” he added.
Virat Kohli has scored 640 runs in the series against England. India have won the series 3-0 with one match to go.
