Cricket legends like Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman and others were happy to see the Indians smashing the Australians and cheered for them on Twitter

Virat Kohli and Co. maintained their victory streak in the first match of the ODI series against Australia in Chennai as they beat the guests by 26 runs. Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. The Australian bowling attack dented the Indian top batting order as Ajinkya Rahane (5), Virat Kohli (0) and Manish Pandey (0) were back to the pavilion within 11 runs. Rohit Sharma tried to stabilise the inning a bit but he too lost his wicket in the 16th over and the Indian team was reduced to 64/4. Kedar Jadhav’s supportive inning of 40 runs helped the Indians a lot to be back on the track while the collective efforts from MS Dhoni (79 off 88), Hardik Pandya (83 off 66) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (32* off 30) took India to post a decent total of 281 runs on the board by the end of 50 overs.

Ahead of the Australian innings, the rain played a spoilsport as the game was reduced to 21 overs and the guests were needed to chase 164 runs. The Indian bowlers didn’t lose the grip and started putting pressure on the Aussies right from the beginning. Though Glenn Maxwell tried to fasten the chasing rate, he could only score 39 runs off 18 balls before Chahal removed him in the 12th over. Towards the end, James Faulkner tried his best to take the game close but failed to do so.

The Aussies fell short by 26 runs and lost the first match. Hardik Pandya bagged the player of the match award for his extraordinary batting and 2 wickets he had taken. Meanwhile, some cricket legends and other Twitterati were happy to see the Indians smashing the Australians and here’s how they cheered for the men in blue on the micro-blogging site:

The next match is scheduled to be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on September 21. The Australian cricket team has to make a comeback so as to maintain their second position in the ICC ODI rankings.
