Virender Sehwag has backed Mahendra Singh Dhoni when some of the former cricketers suggested that the former Indian captain should retire from T20Is. After India lost the 2nd T20I to New Zealand by 40 runs, sDhoni had to face a strong criticism for his slow knock. Former Indian cricketers including VVS Laxman and Ajit Agarkar had opined that “bid adieu to the shortest format of the game and vacant a position for a youngster.” Unlike what his former teammates feel, Sehwag stood by Dhoni’s side and asserted that “team needs him”.
Apart from being a cricket commentator, Sehwag is also a cricket expert for one of the leading Indian news channels. During a chat show, Sehwag said,
“Team India needs MS Dhoni at the moment, even in T20 cricket. He will step down at the right time. He will never block the way for any young cricketer.”

Earlier today, Indian speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar also stood by his former captain saying that “Dhoni is a legend”. During the pre-match press conference, a journalist asked if the team has any worries about MS Dhoni’s future. To this, Bhuvi replied,
“We (as a team) don’t think much about that. You look over his records, he is a legend and whatever has he done, he did it for the country. So no one in the team has any doubt about him.”
MS Dhoni scored 49 runs off 37 balls while chasing a massive target of 196 runs against New Zeland at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on November 4. Skipper Virat Kohli was the highest run-getter from the team and scored 65 runs off 42 balls with 1 six and 8 fours.
The last match of the series will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on November 7.
