British journalist Piers Morgan is at it again, he is poking fun at probably his best friend on the social platform, Virender Sehwag. Indian eves lost to hosts England in a nerve-wracking encounter by 9 runs at Lord’s to hand over England their fourth world cup crown. But, social platforms from across the world has been hailing and congratulating the Mithali Raj-led Indian women’s cricket team for their great run throughout the tournament. Had Indian eves won, it would have been their first brush with the silverware, but that was not to be.
It was history repeating itself for India, as they had been unable to clear the final hurdle for the second time. They had made the finals in 2005, but after that things didn’t quite work out for them. But the effort of making it to the finals, despite being ranked seventh by ICC is commendable.
Electing to bat first, England produced a competitive total of 228 for seven in their 50 overs. Toss always plays a crucial role in knockout matches and it showed yesterday. But, it was Sehwag, who may have got a touch too emotional for which Morgan decided to counter him. But it was all in good spirits, nothing serious!
Me and all of India prouder even in this loss than you can ever be mate.We fought well &will only get better & stronger.
Enjoy for a change! https://t.co/Dv1gn2jpWn— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) July 23, 2017
This is what Sehwag tweeted, “Me and all of India prouder even in this loss than you can ever be mate.We fought well &will only get better & stronger. Enjoy for a change!”
You OK, buddy @virendersehwag? #WWC2017final ___
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) July 23, 2017
Morgan post read, “You OK, buddy.”
The response from Morgan had a underlying sarcasm, which was evident.
Thankfully, Sehwag did not lose his cool and respond or else this could have got dragged.
Virender Sehwag happens to be the only Indian with two triple centuries in Tests and also has a ODI double century to his name. Sehwag has been a proud member of two World Cup winning squads, one in 2007 (T20I) and then 2011 Cricket World Cup. Sehwag has had the tendency of being a flamboyant person on Twitter, for which he has faced backlash in the past.
