Indian batsman Karun Nair, who made his maiden Test double century in the ongoing match against England, found a special souvenir – a broken part of the bat he made the double ton with- to keep as a remembrance of his achievement.
This was a memorable day for Nair and he already got a memorabilia. After completing his century, Nair nicked a fast bouncer. The ball went over the slips for a four. The pacy bouncer, however, broke Nair’s bat. He gave the broken part of his bat to umpire to collect it later as the remembrance of his achievement.
Even after his bat got damaged, Nair chose to continue playing with the same broken bat. He later completed his 150 and was inching towards his double ton.
India were piling up a huge lead on England Day 4 of the fifth Test at Chennai. England had made 477 runs in their first innings. In response, India have acquired a lead of more than a hundred until the second session of the match. Karun Nair and Ashwin were on the crease. Ashwin scored yet another fifty in the series.
On Day 3, opener KL Rahul played a splendid knock as he completed his century, falling just one run short of his maiden double hundred.
He later said he was gutted for missing out on the opportunity to score the double ton.
“Obviously, right now it is me missing out on the 200 took some time to sink in. I was really disappointed. 200 for a batsman is a big landmark and I have never been somebody, who has chased landmarks but getting a 200 will always be a proud moment for a batsman. I am gutted that I missed out,” PTI quoted him in the post-match press-conference.
India have already won the series 3-0. Though the current Test seems to be moving towards a draw, but the Indian team would like to take its chances.
