Watch: Yuvraj Singh-MS Dhoni rekindling old bonhomie is the best thing for Indian cricket

Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have won several matches for India while batting together. Will they weave the same magic again?

Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, two of the biggest match-winners India has ever produced. Batting together, they enthralled cricket fans while taking opposition bowlers to the cleaners. But cracks had appeared within their relationship of late, as media reports suggested. But on Tuesday, things seemed different.

Having relinquished his captaincy in the limited overs format, Dhoni led India A in the warm-up against the England cricket team at the Brabourne Stadium. It had been five days since he created shockwaves among the fans with his decision. India A lost the match to England by three wickets in a close match. But the story does not end there. Both Yuvi and MSD took to Instagram to rekindle old memories when they won matches for India while batting together.

The left-hander hailed Dhoni as one of the best captains he has played under, expressing hope that the latter would now play more aggressively as before. The duo recalled the moments of being a part of the team which won 2007 ICC World T20 and 2011 ICC World Cup. Dhoni was also elated to have witnessed his senior partner’s blistering six sixes off Stuart Broad from the non-strikers’ end.

The Yuvraj-Dhoni partnership has won several matches for India in the limited overs format. Right from the unbeaten 146 run third wicket partnership against Pakistan in Karachi during the 2006 tour to the memorable 2011 World Cup final at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium, both have been brilliant match-winners.

There had been reports of a rift after Yuvraj was excluded from the 2015 World Cup squad, resulting in his father Yograj Singh blaming MSD behind his ouster. However, the 2011 World Cup’s man-of-the-series was recalled to the squad for the ICC World T20 held last year. Also, Dhoni attended the wedding reception of Yuvraj, putting end to all speculations about the frosty relationships between the duo.

When Dhoni stepped down as captain a few days ago, the flamboyant all-rounder backed his decision and hailed his contribution to Indian cricket. He also said he was looking forward to MSD playing fearlessly as he did in early days.

Now that Dhoni has captaincy off his shoulders and Yuvraj seems to have found his mojo back, we can expect more such fireworks on the cricket field.
