You don’t expect a score as low as 45 from an international T20I team. And most definitely not from the Windies to put out such a paltry score. But during the second T20I against England at Warner Park, St Kitts, Windies recorded the second-lowest total in the history of T20I cricket, losing the match by a huge margin of 137 runs.
A batting lineup that boasts of self-proclaimed ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle, latest big-hitting sensation Shimron Hetmyer, World T20 2016 final hero Carlos Brathwaite, and many more, were left red-faced by a poor performance in their own backyard.
They got all out with 49 balls to go, with just two batsmen scoring in double digits. A team which is known for scoring heavily in fours and sixes managed to hit only 4 fours and 1 six. This was also the shortest inning played by a Test playing nation (11.5) in 142 years of international cricket.
The Caribbean players are known for their destructive style of play which makes them favourite in T20 leagues across the globe including IPL, BBL and others. But they were completely disintegrated by the English bowling lineup.
This is England’s biggest victory (margin of runs) in T20I cricket, it is also the third biggest win in T20I overall. The hosts have lost the T20I series already. The fact that England did not have T20 specialists like Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes and Mark Wood makes this loss even more embarrassing.
There is still one more T20I to go. Maybe the real World T20 defending champions will show up to deny England the last laugh.
