One can cut the tension with a knife at Chennai as both the teams will be hoping to get a match out of the first ODI. Both India and Australia want a result out of the first ODI even if gets reduced to mere 20 overs in the second innings. Rain Gods have played spoilsport at M Chidambaram Stadium leaving the pitch and the outfield wet whereas the players and crowd high and dry as they desperately hope covers to come off and the game to start once again.
The second innings started after more than one hour was wasted as slight drizzle ensured that the ground gets covered after the first innings where India posted a total of 281 for 7 in 20 overs, thanks to heroics of Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni.
Australian openers David Warner came to bat with David Warner and Hilton Cartwright coming out to bat and chase a revised target of 238 runs from 37 overs. But it started raining once again without a ball being bowled by India’s frontline bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Virat Kohli & Co. stayed back on the field for a while as Australian openers left. The Umpires too thought that it was a passing shower but it kept drizzling and the covers were on once again.
Targets for Australia in every condition
Par score for Steve Smith & Co.

The first innings did not cease to disappoint the fans. But if the rain continues like this for some more time, the first ODI might just get called off.
