The third and the final Twnety20 International match between India and Australia is in danger as the metrological department has predicted that there is a possibility of light-to-moderate rain during the match which is to be held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium in Hyderabad on October 13.
According to the media reports, “It has been raining quite a lot since last week; so the chances of the match happening may not be too great.”
Metrological department in its statement said, “The forecast is possibility of thunderstorm accompanied with rain today and a light to moderate rain tomorrow.”
The final match of the series is scheduled to start at 7 PM IST and the toss would take place at 6.30 PM. The three-match series currently stands at 1-1 as both the teams have won a match each. India won the first match of the series by 9 wickets at Ranchi via D/L method. In the second match played a Guwahati, the visitors bounced back and thrashed the Indians by 8 wickets.
“Arrangements have been made at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, the venue of the match, to ensure that the match is held without any problem,” curator YL Chandrasekhar said, adding that the recent bout of rain had not affected the pitch.
However, the outfield was affected a bit with a few fans helping to dry out the affected area.
Following the met department’s weather reports, the question on everyone’s mind is what will happen if the series decider between India and Australia is washed out by rain? If there is no play then both the captains – Virat Kohli from the Indian side and David Warner, who is captaining the Australian side after regular skipper Steve Smith left for home after a shoulder injury – would be sharing the trophy.
Australia, however, will be striving to win the decider to take the T20 trophy home as they have already lost the One-Day International (ODI) series 1-4.
