Usain Bolt ran his last 100m sprint of his career on August 5 in London. The entire world watched as the 30-year-old star Jamaican sprinter finished third in his last solo race at the World Athletics Championships at Stratford’s Olympic Stadium. Even though he failed to clinch the gold for one last time, his fans and supporters captured the moment in their hearts. American athlete Justin Gatlin won the gold and Bolt had to be content with the bronze.
Bolt’s glorified career came to an end with this race. Touted to be one of the best sprinters of all the time and Bolt also had a special liking for the game of cricket. Bolt hails from Jamaica which is one of the countries in West Indies. Hence, his love for cricket is pretty obvious. According to several media reports, in 2012, Bolt, in an interview, revealed that he loved watching the Pakistan cricket team during his childhood days. He also expressed his likings for the veteran Pakistan speedster Waqar Younis and termed him one of the greatest bowlers of all time.
Bolt said,”When I was a kid, I loved Pakistan cricket team. Waqar Younis was one of the greatest Pakistan bowlers ever. I was a bowler then so I really enjoyed watching him. I was a huge Pakistan cricket team fan until I got older and I noticed that I should actually support my home team.”
Apart from his support for the Pakistani team in his childhood, he also played an exhibition cricket match against Yuvraj Singh’s team. In that game, Bolt hit a six to win the game for his team. While batting, he was also heard saying,”We have to hit a big six like Yuvraj to win this game.”
Usain Bolt’s has won 8 Olympic Gold medals and is considered as the greatest Olympians of all time. He shined at three consecutive Olympic games winning the 100 and 200-metre formats comprehensively.
