It has been a while since Steven Smith got banned for a year by Cricket Australia (CA). But Smith is making the most of his time by playing in local leagues in Australia and across the globe. Recently, the 29-year-old played in a T20 match and managed to pull visibly more crowd than the first ODI between Australia and South Africa.
Smith did not disappoint his fans who turned up to see him. He scored a quickfire knock of 40 runs off 21 balls. He struck a few sixes in his innings but the one where he copied MS Dhoni’s signature shot took the cake.
While most players struggle to get the timing right and end up getting trolled for the effort, Smith played it to the perfection and cleared to the boundary. The shot got an even louder cheer from the crowd compared to his other shots.
Not just his bowling but Smith seems to be enjoying his bowling as well. The leg spinner who became a specialist batsman over the years took 3 wickets in the T20 fixture. During the match he was also reunited with former Australian cricketer Shane Watson.
Currently, Australian cricket team is struggling in all formats of the game. The absence of their captain and opener David Warner has had a major impact on their game. Few veterans and former cricketers too have also batted for the ban to be shortened so that they can restore Australian to their former glory.
