This year we saw Australian left-arm pacer bowl the ‘ball of the century’ in Ashes 2017-18, bamboozling James Vince. And then came Windies left-arm fast-bowler Sheldon Cottrell who bowled one of the most bizarre deliveries, aptly termed the ‘no-ball of the century’. Many times the ball slips out of the bowler’s hand and lands on the pitch next to it but we have never seen anything like this.
Cottrell was given the new ball and there was no dew present on the pitch during the ODI. Cottrell seemed to have no control over the ball as it carried to the fielder present at the second slip. Ashley Nurse had to take a few steps to his right to take the catch. Wicketkeeper Shai Hope and Chris Gayle, along with Bangladesh batsman Anamul Haque, could do nothing but see the ball go up in the air.
Here’s the video of the delivery —
Here are a few reactions to Cottrell’s faux pas —
What was that from Sheldon Cottrell?

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! Sheldon Cottrell’s sixth ball goes straight to second slip on the full! The widest wide I have ever seen. #WIvBAN

The 28-year-old was not impressive in the third ODI against Bangladesh as he gave away 59 runs in 9 overs he bowled in the innings. He took the wicket of Sabbir Rahman later on in the innings but could not stop the visitors from posting a total of 301 on the board. He has played just 6 ODIs since his debut in 2015. He will need to be more accurate than that if he wishes to retain a place in the side.
